* Note: Pennsylvania Department of Education requires 190 hours field of experience requirement whereby teacher candidates go into schools to observe/teach classes. Candidates may receive up to 40 hours for prior teaching/observation teaching experience. In addition, 60 hours pre-student teaching will be achieved during the last semester. Therefore, all candidates must complete at least 90 hours of field pre-teaching experience before their final semester.
Initial Teacher Certification Track Content Requirements Vary
For example: Biology certification requires different undergraduate courses than English. Each applicant will need to compare their transcripts with required undergraduate courses to determine what, if any, undergraduate (or graduate) content courses still need to be completed. This is done on an individual basis.
* Most students will need to take one or more undergraduate courses.
